I’m at the ferry terminal in Calais - just!

OMG! What an exercise to get to the ferry terminal. According to Google maps I’m just 15 minutes away. It took me through the back streets of Calais which was fine as I knew the overnight parking was close to the port. The app guided me perfectly to the final roundabout and there was a sign saying car ferry and another sign pointing to the motorway. I was very careful to check the route before I left but hadn’t realised it would take me away from the car ferry sign. I dutifully followed the app. It headed 3 kms away down the motorway before bringing me around in a big circle and back the way I had come but this time heading towards rather than away from Calais. Lorries steaming down the motorway with me and then confronted by about ten lanes all with different markings, so confusing when one’s memory is of a relatively simple entry in the past. I spotted the DFDS marks but then the app and other signs are telling me to use a different lane and all the time there are Lorries thundering past all presumably knowing where they’re going. I’m now guessing the app knew what it was doing bringing me away to then bring me back in to this massive corral that then spits you out in to about a hundred lanes for all the various ferry companies most with big red crosses so you have to spot a white light with DFDS cars. The whole area now is massive and hugely complicated. By this time I’m quite stressed but relieved and having received my ticket to get in I calmly drive right passed the French immigration- not seeing any red or green lights and no obvious signs only to hear a guy screaming at me! I slowly reversed back. “Do you live in Sangat?” No! “You have no entry stamp in you passport!” 🤷 “Where do you live, Liverpool?” No, Stratford upon Avon. “Humph! you can go!”
Then to UK border control. Chap couldn’t have been nicer.
I’m on an earlier ferry;7:35. Ensconced in the Premium lounge - on my own, with my own personal steward it would seem. This is the life , and relax! ☺️
